Since returning from my honeymoon, I have not been good about updating this blog, but now I am re-adjusted and back on top of my shit!
Man, the internet is an incredible thing and the world (Los Angeles) is a magical place. Let me explain - recently, while looking through my e-mail junk-mail (always a good thing to do because you might miss something important that accidentally got filtered) I found this surprising letter from Paris, France:
Hi,
My name is Damien AVELANGE. I am 30, french, and I live near Paris.
I’m a fan of 60’s music. I specialized for my own pleasure in local hits in north America during the 60’s and sometimes I am happy to discover great songs.
I am looking for a song, “Don’t Follow Me” by a group called “Doyle, Dooley & Co.”. This song was a minor hit in Albany, New York, in 1969 : http://las-solanas.com/arsa/charts_item.php?hsid=45011
One of the only information on the internet I found is your blog : http://www.nastymillionaire.com/page/30 where I listened the flip side “Walkin’, Drinkin’, Talkin’, Thinkin’ You”.
You say you are the child of one original member of the band. Maybe have you a record with the song “Don’t Follow Me” and can help me to hear this.
Best regards,
Damien
So here is the evidence - it’s true - the internet makes the world a smaller place! It is so cool that this guy from Paris has such a specialized taste - a very small niche of music. So I told him, of course I have the song and of course, I would send it to him. He must be a cool dude.

Getting an e-mail like this is so rewarding… when I started this blog, the idea was to post my own music, but it morphed into a project of discovering and posting all my dad’s old music as well (he passed away less than two years ago).
In other news, last night we went to YANG CHOW for dinner - hands down the best Chinese food in all of Los Angeles (you gotta get the slippery shrimp and the string beans with pork)!!
So, while we are waiting for our food (it was a pick-up TO GO order) we were looking at all the signed photos on the walls of the actors & athletes & other celebrities who have eaten there. But then we look at one of the first booths in the restaurant, and who is sitting there eating… ? DENZEL WASHINGTON!!
He was dressed down and unassuming, with a black baseball cap on. The real give-away that it was him was the sound of his voice.
On the car ride home, we reminisced about the great movie “Training Day” (King Kong ain’t got nothin on me!!)
Later that night, after eating, guess what movie we randomly stumbled upon on the TV set? Yup, it was Training Day, and it was right at the end, when Denzel says his famous King Kong line.
