This is a track from my dad’s band, not sure of the exact year. I suppose he was around 25 years old. Which I guess means this track was released around the mid-60s.

I think my dad is singing on this track and I think he wrote this song, along with Phil Doyle. I guess my dad was “& company” in this group. But that was always his style. He didn’t desire the spotlight, he was too humble.

I think this song has really beautiful lyrics. There is an alternate take of this song that is arranged completely differently. I gotta find it and digitize it, then will upload it at a later date.

I think this band had a very, very minor success. I am speaking strictly about a financial and music industry standard. Let’s not get into a discussion on the meaning of true “success”.

Of all of the songs that I have heard from my dad’s band, this song was always one of my favorites.

“I hold you near me / and the world starts disappearing…”

I am not sure who played the guitar solo. I will have to ask Phil Doyle about these details. He was a good friend of my father’s and of our family, and we still keep in touch. I do not know anything about this Dooley woman who is pictured in the photo above.

And it is nice that this song clocks in at almost exactly two minutes - short and sweet and to the point. There is a time and place for long eleven minute tracks, but I think brevity is always to be appreciated in pop music.
