This is one of the more recent tracks that I have made. I am kind of testing out some new mic techniques, plus recording styles on my new tascam 388. Also, this is the second song I have ever done that uses someone else’s beat. My boy LOWD made this beat just messing around, and then I added some lyrics just messing around.
The chorus came to me out of a freestyle, and as I sang it, I thought “ok, that is the chorus”. But then I wondered, now to I have to change all the previous abstract, all over the place lyrics? Like, now do I have to make all the lyrics about a girl? No, of course not. I can rap about my fiance, then jump to some philosophy, then jump to a joke, then jump to some dark stuff, and then I can sing the chorus. Everything is everything!
EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!
It is a cool experience for me rapping over other people’s beats because I got so used to just making my own beats. With Lowd’s beat, my stuff sounds more like hip-hop instead of indie-hop.
The chorus of this song is about how sometimes you want to do stuff fast and crazy and buck-wild, but then other times you might want to be calm and relaxed and mellow. But in the end , it is all the same thing. They are both equally good at different times. And when I say “make love”, I mean sex, but I also mean general peace and harmony.
Nothing has to make sense because people will always connect the dots for you, people will always make it make sense to themselves somehow, and everyone can have a different interpretation. So even if I had an intended meaning, people will see it their own way anyway. I even say in the song, “say one thing with five different meanings”.
The opening line “damn man, I’m gonna be a husband / but that don’t mean I gotta stop rapping” is about how people think marriage is about settling down, and in many ways it is, and it helps make a man more responsible, but those changes don’t have to affect everything all the time. Sometimes it can feel scary, like you are giving up certain parts of yourself, but it is totally worth it - the more you give up, the more you shall recieve in return. I firmly believe that.
Just another one of my meandering stream-of-consciousness raps. If people just walk away with one nugget of a new idea or thought or way of looking at the world, then that is what makes a good song, in my opinion.
